Bone Trivia

Here are some fun and interesting facts about bones!

You are born with 300 bones!

By the time you reach adulthood, you have 206 bones.

The smallest bone in the human body is called the stapes and is located in the ear.

Your longest (and strongest) bone is the femur (unless you're an alien or something).

The only bone without connections to another bone is the hyoid bone, located in the neck area, at the base of your tongue.  You know, it's that one bone that tells the coroner if a person has been strangled (every crime show fanatic knows this).

Did you know that white blood cells are produced in your bones?  Now you do.

When you break a bone, they start to heal on their own. This is why you should immediately seek care. A poorly, misaligned bone fracture can cause disability and other unwanted consequences.

The pubic symphysis (or symphysis pubis) are left and right bones of your pelvic girdle, joined by cartilage and ligaments.  During childbirth, a woman's pubic symphysis will temporarily separate or move to give the baby's head more room to exit. Even more interesting, the baby's skill has five separate bones which cross over each other allowing the baby to more easily fit through the birth canal.  The human body is amazing, isn't it!
